Few things shock me beyond belief. This is one of them... Being someone who interacts day in and out with management students and representatives of management institutions across the world, the intensity of shock is much more.
Students of one of the better known management institute, which claims to churn out managers and leaders of the future and has a tradition of training young minds and finding solutions to address tomorrow’s challenges carry out such a heinous act, which put the whole of mankind to shame. While we all can say that parents are to be blamed and attribute the whole episode to upbringing and I agree that most parents happily ignore the fact that parenting is a continuous process and does not end with their children securing admission is elite education institutions across the country, I guess the onus of this one does lie with the institute as well. Is the Institute responsible only for imparting management book knowledge and haven't the teachers failed to spot the behavioural traits of students attending classes everyday with them?? All the management schools brag about how they are different from the other and the only criteria that each one of them try to differentiate themselves from others is the fact that they strive to make "better human beings" out of their students. This incident proves that to be a far cry. Forget creating "better human beings" I wonder if they even are aware of behaviour traits of students in their institutions. Going through the video clearly indicates that the students engaged in this particular heinous activity are mentally imbalanced and have no sense of maturity and resp0nsibility. They also do not have sense of respect and their core values of humanity seem to be completely absent. How did such individuals secure admission to such a "prestigious" institution. The whole of admission machinery, which boasts of best minds in the country in panel to select students after elaborate interviewing process, seems to have failed, with no one in the panel being able to spot such inconsistency in behavioural pattern. and if they claim that they did a good job in that process, then it simply means that their though process deteriorated after being a part of this institution. Both ways they cannot escape the responsibility of this act.
Now having spoken of the above lets look at the way the country and its law enforcing mechanism dealt with the case. The culprits were released on bail of just Rs 7000/- in 24 hours. Amazing as it may sound but is true. Where is NCHR??? All they are interested in is ensuring Ajmal Kasab gets fed properly.... Women rights commission members are still sleeping as it is weekend for them or maybe they are busy with page 3 parties. Oh and yes we have the IPL finals today .. so maybe they can deal with this little girls plight tomorrow (after all this one wont give them the same limelight as it doesn't involve any high profile personality)...
I know in few days no one would remember this episode, but if this is the direction in which some of our youngsters behavioural pattern is moving towards, its a matter or grave concern.

excellent,commendable,its truly time or may be long ago that time had arrived when we should have installed a refined system to identify,segregate and reform individuals capable of committing such or even more heinous crimes.
but when i ask myself how justified it is to blame the guardians or the institutions in particular or society at large for separate and individual acts of molestation or other such heinous crimes-i get twin answers. with a society which produces individuals as diverse as gandhi and godse,with families which have shankar dayal sharma and manu sharma,with institutions which produce D Subbarao and killer of four year old daughter with equal rarity,how exactly do we know whom to blame or give credit to?no one in the world spotted the bahavioural imbalances in ramalingam raju.

the solution as per me is "cure is better than prevention "in this case,make the punishment so severe and swift that people at least never dream of doing such things with impunity.even this cant ensure a perfect society but of course it would give us a society which would be a little better than the previous one.

A very well made observation. I fully agree with you but if you notice I have only made observation specifically to Management Institutions as they single themselves out as institutions which produce different kind of individuals who can be leaders of tomorrow. Most of these Institutions do talk of such things as being part of their value system hence the comment. I agree that not all the institutions can be held responsible. As far as parents are concerned, I would be far more tough. A parent definately has to, without fail, be a part of childs behavioural growth as much as biological growth. The traits of unnatural behavioural pattern displayed by the accused students here would not have suddenly developed as a part of the childs personality, it would have shown traces of growth at various stages and definately the parents would have missed out on it due to various reasons.
One out of the box thought process again... shouldnt we punish the parents as well???... a severe punishment to parents would ensure other parents give enough time to their childs development .. but then we are in a democratic set up and all the norms of society are also in one way or the other governed by political influence.. we shall discuss this one in detail sometime :)

definitely what you are saying has enough logic in it,in fact after reading your reply i feel how immature i am to form positive or negative opinions about sensitive issues.but let me tell you why this difference of opinion-
sir,you are 12 years senior to me and have reached an stage where you dont hesitate to take blame for the mistakes committed by say-your son,your juniors,your subordinates.you feel its your fault if they go wrong somewhere. i being at the bottom of the foodchain hold myself and only myself responsible for every mistake and failures. (though i realise in all my achievements my family and institutions have had a very major role to play)
may be this difference in the subconscious methodology of attributing guilt caused us to view this incident slightly differently
one more parting thought sir- - plz dont punish the parents for the wrongs done by the wards,but same idea i think has the latent potential to solve india's population explosion problem- if implemented forcefully..ha!ha!
